Clinical Research Unit (CRU)

     The institute has earned a great fame in Tamil Nadu for the successful clinical trials on rheumatoid arthritis, gout, piles, osteoarthritis, low back pain, vitiligo, filariasis, infective hepatitis, stomatitis, urolithiasis, stomatitis, insomnia, bronchial asthma, etc. Clinical studies carried out on these diseases at this institute, along with other centres, have helped the Council in obtaining provisional patents on some Unani drugs. The scientific data collected from such clinical studies has been published in various national and international reputed journals for the global acceptance of Unani medicine. The institute has established active research collaborations with reputed academic and research institutions in Chennai like ICMR- National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis (NIRT), Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, Captain Srinivasa Murthy Central Ayurveda Research Institute, National Institute of Siddha (NIS), Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS), Government General Hospital, Chennai, Department of Microbiology, Dr. A.L. Mudhaliyar, PG Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Madras, etc. With the collaboration of these institutions, the institute has successfully completed many research studies on different diseases and research problems such as malaria, filariasis, tuberculosis, toxicity study of UNIM-115 in rats, In-Silico evaluation of four different Unani formulations against SARS CoV- 2, etc.
